Hi, I work as a IT consultant in Sydney.
I am a no mood, non pretentious straight forward guy. Want to live my life happily and take whatever comes with it. I don't believe in societal, pre-established norms and rules.. instead like to wander across places, listen to stories of people and encourage them in any manner I can.
There are incidents when bikers are looked down by society, when they are considered a rash face of youth, but for me biking is a way of life or a remedy that has helped me in keeping my temper down, in facing many uncertainties, in being patient at times, and happy in adverse conditions; a way that has helped me in taking the challenges and moving forward with them.
I ride at stretches when I feel I should stop, but I keep moving. Back to my normal life, riding a long stretch has made me more willing to endure. Even when I could have been easily irritated I spend more time on a task, unless I reach on to some conclusion.
I rode to places, and lived in adverse conditions; the conditions may be difficult for us but are reality for thousands of people. When I am out on a ride, I enjoy living as one of them, experience their life and once back all hyped difficulties look much smaller to me.
While riding, I keep the ride as a freedom ride, I only check for the destination and try to find my way out by my own. Keep on covering places, by reading sign boards, talking to people, using my direction sense, randomly decide where to stay and when to move ahead to reach my destination. I don’t plan my ride and that helped my character to stay focused, when faced with some uncertain condition. The unexpected situations that I come across in my day to day life looks easy to control, the way I control my unplanned rides. Other predictable things in life are planned, but the real unpredictable ones never make me nervous, instead I quickly adjust and respond to those.
If you are still reading, you are most welcome to shoot your travel queries on Himachal, Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand. I would love to discuss about hills, motorcycles and hitchhiking with all you fellow ones. Cheers!

Hey Puneet. I am planning to go to Kasol and Malana with a friend who is coming from America. Its a group of 3-4 of us. Could you give your email id or a contact number where I can reach you and get some details about where to stay where to go etc.
ReplyDeleteYou can contact me at - 85.puneetsingh@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWrite to me and I will get back to you with all details..

I am looking for a nice and safe place for camping along the Baspa river in May. Could you please guide me?
ReplyDeleteHi, You can camp amidst the green pastures in Rakcham a few kms (7-8) after Sangla.. That is a perfect camping place along the river, just cross the river to go towards other side and camp there.. Better to arrange your food well before as until a few years back, food outlets in Rakcham used to open at their own will.. All the best and do keep us updated on your camping trip. Cheers!
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI live in Chandigarh and I am planning to visit Manali. I have 5 days . I have decided that on day 1 I will roam in Manali only, on day 2 I will go to Rohtang Pass and in evening I will come back to Manali. Now I am left with 3 days more. I want to visit Kasol, Mallana and Tosh. Is it possible to visit all these three places in the other 3 days?
If yes then how should i make my schedule for these three places? Where should I stay? Does these three places have guest houses? I am going Manali by Bus, so I don't have any personal vehicle so are there any bus facilities to travel these three places or should i have to hire taxi?
I am planning to go by next week so reply as soon as possible.
Thank You :)
Hello Varun,
DeleteHere it goes:
Day1: Reach Manali after overnight bus journey. Take a guest house in Old Manali (if you are traveling alone as a backpacker). Just rest and walk around Manali that day.
Day2: Manali - Rohtang and back, evening you can visit Vashisht for hot springs or you can sit in some nice café and spend time relaxing there.
Day3: After your breakfast, check out from Manali and reach Kasol. I am sure you will find how to reach Kasol :)
Day4: Go to Malana early morning and come back, for staying there it is painful to carry bag and trek. Back from KAsol upto Dunkhra, and right from there on Jaypee Dam road and reach a small police post from where you will go into valley, cross river and trek for about 40-50 minutes to reach Malana.
If you return back till afternoon, you can very well visit Tosh and come back.
Day5: You can walk to Chalal, Manikaran(to have bath in hot water springs) and spend time in Kasol. On this day evening, you can head back to Chandigarh in night.
I hope it answers your queries and if you have anything specific to ask, let me know.
Have a fun filled trip. Boom Bholenath....
Kasol has guest houses - you can find from as cheap as 150Rs per night. You will find it there. Kasol is best among three to stay overnight. Malana has a couple of guest houses, but it is a little hostile place to stay for night in my opinion. Tosh also has guest houses (a few) but you can find a room there...
DeleteYou can find share taxis and local buses as public transport there. Taxi would be a little costly and if you travel in public transport you will get to know more about that place..
hey Hi!
ReplyDeleteI m planning to go sach pass on a bike . though i m a pillion.. !
have traveled through Himalayas, but on a bike, first timer.. Is that a good idea to do it in august .. we guys are planning to go on 9th.. which is the best route. . could i speak to you over fone.. i plan to shoot the whole trip on a some professional camcorder too.. wanted to know how feasible is it going to be..
cheers
Bhavna
Hi Bhavna,
DeleteYou can go in August, but get fully prepared for riding in rains in August. Rain suits, plastic sheets for bags etc. Be cautious as that place is very less inhabited and be prepared with your tool kit, spares as well. If it is drizzling, it won't be a problem.
You can shoot with camcorder, great, go ahead. Between Chamba to Tandi (in Lahaul), you will find very good places to shoot.
There are people who do it in August and there are people who avoid if it is raining due to fear of landslides, water logging. So final decision is yours and of the rider's who will brave it in case there are rains..
You can get in touch through fb - 85.puneetsingh@gmail.com or buzz me at 9703104600 after 7pm. Cheers!
Hey Puneet,
ReplyDeleteM planning a bike trip from Chandigarh to Kasol, got a few questions, would b great if u could answer em for me...
1. Is Mid-march a suitable time to go to kasol ?
2. Is it better to go by bikes or car ?
3. What's the road like ?
4. Are there decent auto repair shops on the route?
5. Can this trip be done over 2.5 days ?
Mid March is good but will be little colder, but cold is bearable and clean and fresh sunlight.
Delete2) If you have experience of going on bikes, and if you think you can manage with no bach ache or bum soars, and ride on highway, hills you can go on bike. If you want to enjoy company of friends, talk more and be together you will enjoy car.
3) Road is not bad upto Bhunter, last 30kms are patchy and not good.
I went there in June 2012 last time, and upto Bhunter in July 2013. I am sure these can be managed.
4) In Punjab, there are and in Himachal upto Bilaspur auto repair shops are there. After Bilaspur you will not find really good repair shops, but basic ones in Sundernagar. In Mandi there are a few ok types and further bike repair shops are in Kullu, Bhunter and even Manali as well. So which car/bike are you planning to take.
5) take 7 hours from Chandigarh one side. You can take a good feel of the place and come back in 2.5 hours, but you may not be able to explore much.
Have a fun filled and safe trip. Cheers
Thanks for your reply buddy !! We are planing to go on bikes only now !! 2 Enfields and a pulsar... We are experienced riders, but this would b the first trip of this length, so looking fwd to the experience.. no doubt there would b sore bums and back aches, but we are ok with that :D
DeleteWill update you after we r done with the trip !!
Cheers !!
Hi Puneet
ReplyDeleteThis is Shikhar i m going to kasol with my friends in mid june can u tell me about kasol near by places, cafes and weather in june
Kasol is nice place, enjoy. Be prepared for moderate cold nights, days should be pleasant (towards hotter side) like 28 degrees or so. Nearby places are Chalal - A nice café there, Malana, Tosh, Kheerganga. There are water bodies at several places, you can enjoy with your friends. All the best.
DeleteHi puneeth, we are a group of 8 from South, planning for a Kullu, Manali tour for 5 days in oct. We are coming to North for first time and would like to cover some adventure sports like river rafting, paragliding, some picturesque locations of Himalayas, camping etc., Can you suggest some places around kullu, manali that we can cover in 4 days? We also require some information about the local guides, time of stay at each place, hotel info. We know decent Hindi as well :D
ReplyDeleteHi Prudhviraj, Once you reach Manali, you can ask step out of your hotel and you will find a lot of local tourist agencies and you can book paragliding through them.
DeleteFor rafting, come to Kullu and just at the river side rafting location, you will find a lot of tourist agencies boards offering rafting. It will be easy.
For 4 days, you can visit Manali, go up to Rohtang Pass, visit Kullu for rafting. Check on google places to cover in Manali.
