Until a few days back, I considered registering my marriage to be a nightmare and used to think about an agent to get my marriage certificate. Now that I have obtained my marriage certificate, and if you are reading this post I am sure you will find it very simple and easy to obtain your marriage certificate from Delhi. I will explain step wise:
STEP 1 : Get address of your area's marriage registrar office, in general area where husband resides. For some areas you will have to book an online appointment for submitting your documents. You can check this link for setting up an online appointment : http://districts.delhigovt.nic.in/choosedistrict.asp
http://districts.delhigovt.nic.in/findsubdivision.asp is another link to find sub-registrar office for your area.
STEP2: You need to get following documents ready:
> Filled form with signatures.
> Another form for witness - 2 witnesses required (parents can be a witness), witnesses PAN no. and photostat of PAN card Witnesses Aadhar card or voter id or passport or ration card copy.
In the witness form, you need to paste your pic and your wife's passport size picture.
> Your own address proof (both husband and wife's address proof) : Also serve as age proof.
> Affidavit from a notary (content is on back side of witness form) - 2 copies of affidavit, one each to be signed by husband and wife. Cost is Rs 200.
> If you are a divorcee - Divorce order or if you are a widow/widower - death certificate of spouse.
> Aadhar card of Husband/Wife is must. I argued with clerk that SC of India has declared that Aadhar card is no longer a mandatory document but clerk said this is a mandatory field in software and is needed. So we immediatly rushed to Aadhar enrollment centre and got Aadhar acknowledgement receipt and used that as a proof.
> 200 Rs as fee.
> On a plain white paper - 1 ceremonial picture (self attested) and 2 copies of passport size pictures (glued) and self attested.
> Wedding card copy (where name, date and address details of marriage are given)
> If marriage was solemnized in a temple - a certificate by priest (but is not mandatory as we didn't attached that).
STEP 3:
With all these documents ready, you will submit these to the clerk in office on your appointment date. You can go alone for submission. If your area is not in online link, you can go to your area's marriage registration office (enquire this before as for us living in Rohini Sector-13, office was 15 kms away in Civil lines) between 10 am to 1 pm and submit the documents.
Upon receival of documents and fees, you will be given a date when both of you (couple) and witness must go to office again for signature. Then you can collect the marriage certificate.
* All documents must be self attested. Witnesses documents to be attested by them and your documents by yourself.
* Approximately it will take 1 month to get date of collecting certificate from the date when you submit documents.
* If you are in hurry, pay Rs 10K - Get a receipt and get your certificate under Tatkal scheme on same day when you submit documents - Convenient but comes with a price.
* If you want to bribe the clerk, he won't give you receipt but 99% chances are that he will get your certificate same day in Rs 6K.
* I only know about Hindu Marriage Act which covers Hindu, Jain, Sikhs, Buddhists in India.
Cheers and ask me questions if you want to. I will try to answer a few of them at least.

ReplyDeleteHi, For tatkal you will be charged 10K rupees and you will get certificate the same day when you submit your documents. Go with all documents ready and 10,000 rupees and you will get certificate on the same evening. All the best, it's easy. Cheers
DeleteAppointment for Marriage Registration is not available for next four dates. Kindly try tomorrow.

DeleteHello puneet myself Madhu chawla. My son recently got married and we are a little confused about few queries. I'll be glad if you can help us out in getting our query cleared.
ReplyDelete1st query On the marriage certificate application form there's a clause which says "name and particulars of witnesses on the marriage ceremony" what particulars are required.??????
2nd query On the witnesses identification certificate there is a statement which says about "pay scale" my husband is retired and running family business and I myself is also partner. So do we need to declare our pay scale or it's not mandatory ????
3rd query do we need to paste our passport size Photograph on the same A4 size sheet along with the marriage photograph ?????
Thank you
Regards
Madhu Chawla
Hello,
Delete1. Particulars - Pan card and Voter Id Card or Passport or any govt. recognized identity card.
2. No it is not mandatory at all.
3. Passport size pics of couple only who are getting marriage registered on same page as ceremony picture.
Regards.

ReplyDeletePuneet, Hi... thanks for all the info but i do have a few questions
ReplyDelete1. U mention that the affidavit costs 200... so each has to be made on 100 Rs/- stamp paper... if not any specification?
2. U mention 2 copies of passport pictures glued along with the ceremonial pic... so that implies that u need 2 pics of the husband and 2 pics of the wife on the sheet right?

Hi Puneet. Do we need to take any sort of online appointment for Tatkal marriage certificate
ReplyDeleteReall so nice blog you have always post with good feeling images - Court Marriage in Rohini
ReplyDeleteHello Puneet ,
ReplyDeleteNice blog man.
I have some one question::
I filled the online form and uploaded all the documents , now i got 28 december as my appointment date. So that means on 28 i should go there and show them all the originals and then they will give me a next date?
Or on 28 itself i can go with witnesses and get the marriage registered ?
Sorry, missed it earlier. Yes on 28th you should go there and submit your docs. If you want to get certificate on the same day, pay 10 thousand rupees and they will do it under tatkal scheme.
DeleteMohit, did you get a gazetted officer to sign off on all your documents? The website mentions that a gazetted officer to sign off on the identity certificate (format where passport size photographs have to be affixed of husband and wife). Also, his signature is required on the marriage photo. They even mention that the gazetted officer should be there during your appointment as witness. Is this true??
DeletePuneet - any more recent inputs around this?
Also, I've heard that Delhi government has brought down the Tatkal fee to 1000 rupees - don't know if this is true or not. Will be very very grateful for a prompt response.
Sorry mate, I am not sure about bringing down of Tatkal fees. If that's true, it is great news for Delhi newly wed couples. Trust me 10K is a lot, I know lot of people who have paid 5K bribe and still get it done in 1 day. So government should really step in here and if they have already, its appreciable.
Delete2 years back, it was just self attestation and affidavit from notary. But if website says should be attested from gazetted officer, better to check at your local registrar office. Generally a lot of people are there, and if officers are busy you can even check with any other couple waiting there.
Thank you!
DeleteHi Puneet,
ReplyDeleteIs Aadhar card of both Husband and wife required.? I have my Aadhar card but my wife doesn't ?
Hi, yes it is mandatory. You can get Adhar acknowledgement in 1 day and acknowledgement no. is also accepted.
DeleteHi I have submitted documents online. Now the system wants me to select an appointment date. Could you pls confirm whether I would need to go along with my wife and 2 witnesses on the same date to the concerned SDM office.
ReplyDeleteEven i am in the same situation. What is the date for??
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteAppointment date used to be document submission date. Now that yo have uploaded documents online, I suggest you check at registrar office. Can you confirm what all documents have you submitted online?
DeleteHi Puneet,
ReplyDeleteThanks for such an excellent blog, and the continuing service you are providing. Have a quick question if you have a moment.
Have used the online application, and have scanned and uploaded all the docs. Now it's asking to select an appointment time. The problem is that for the next month all the given appointment time either me or my wife are not here.
You mentioned that for the appointment time, only one of needs to go. You sure about this?
It used to be earlier, on appointment date documents were submitted. Now that you have already submitted documents online, can you confirm if you have submitted all documents, including fees and affidavit as well?
Deletehi sir,
ReplyDeletewhat to do if appointment dates are not showing in edistrict it gets stuck on page "check appointment" it shows nothing, no date or time.
please sir suggest me what to do.
I have recently submitted the documents online and have got the appointment date as well. After reading comments here, I called area SDM office and asked them if witnesses needs to come along. They have just confirmed me that I should come along with my spouse, witnesses, all documents and fees on the appointment date. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteNice blog Puneet,
ReplyDeleteOne question: does the marriage need to be solemnised in a place of worship or could it also be a court marriage? And how many days before you could apply for the registration after the wedding day? Can it be the same day?
If it is court marriage, the process is a bit different. I am not sure about it.
DeleteAlso is this valid for Gurgaon? If the general area of the husband is that
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI was applying online for marriage registration, I need to enter details of 2 witnesses. Can I provide my wife's parent as witness. Please share your experience with the same. Rent agreement is enough as address proof in delhi ?
Dear Sir, Delhi has 33 SDM offices. For Marriage Registration at SDM Alipur, both non blood relatives are required as witness. SDM Rohini, SDM Kanjhawala and SDM Model Town, one blood and one non blood relative are required as witness. Please check if your address falls under any of the above SDM Offices.
