A small request to all: Enjoy nature, enjoy your travel but please don’t spoil MOTHER NATURE. Refill bottles, don’t throw plastic in water bodies or roads. Dispose your garbage at proper place. Cheers!
If you are looking for the route from Tso Moriri to Pang (On Manali-Leh Highway), you have arrived at the correct post.
From Karzok (village on banks of Tso Moriri), take the road back towards Upshi, until you reach village Sumdo. From Sumdo, take left and follow the trail. After you have crossed around 100kms (it took me 3.5 hours on my motorbike from Tso Moriri to Tso Kar), you will see a beautiful blue colored lake known as Tso Kar.
So if you want to touch Manali – Leh highway from Tso Moriri without going back to Upshi and Tanglangla, here is your way:
Tso Moriri (Karzok) – Sumdo – Tso Kar (105kms)
Tso Kar – Debring – More plains (20kms). Take left on touching More Plains
More plains – Pang – Lachung La – Nakee La – Gata loops - Tanglang La – Sarchu – Baralacha La – Zing Zing Bar – Patseo – Jispa Camp – Darcha – Keylong – Gramphoo – Rohtang La – Manali.
One can chose to stay at Darcha or Keylong for the night, if coming from Tso Moriri via Tso Kar.
Alternately, for those in Leh, looking to do a nice circuit, here is your route:
Leh – Upshi (left from here) – Mahe checkpost (right from here) – Sumdo – Karzok (village on banks of Tso Moriri)– Sumdo (left from here) – Tso Kar – Debring (right on More plains) – TangLang La – Rumste – Upshi – Leh.
It is doable in a day, but my suggestion is to halt at Tso Moriri and enjoy the pristine, untouched beauty of Tso Moriri.
If you need to know anything on this route, let me know and I will help fellow travelers. Cheers.

ReplyDeleteHow is road between Sumudo and Moore Plains via TSO KAR?
ReplyDeleteIt is not a tar road, it is rough and not maintained.. no dhaba before tsokar as well.
Deletehey can we do it like this on bike
ReplyDeleteday1 leh to tso moriri
day2 tso moriri to pang
and how much time will it take on both days?
Hi Saurav,
DeleteDay 1 - Doable - Take between 8 - 10 hours depending on your speed, no. of breaks, photography, food, tea etc.
Day 2 - Doable Tso moriri - Tso Kar : 3-4 hours, TsoKar - Pang - Another 1-1.5 hours
You mean Pang and not Pangong, right?
Puneetji , i have a question... i would like to cover the route of tso moriri to manali on 19th to 20th july. Is there possibility of road block or any complication on that time?

DeleteHi Avishek,
DeleteThere is no way to predict this dear. Roadblock can be on any day over there with equal probability.
Go easy and enjoy the trip, don't think much about roads.
once we reach Leh. this is our plan.
ReplyDeleteDay 1 - Leh to Nubrah valley
Day 2 - Nubrah Valley to Pangong (spangmik), either by warila or agham, shyok (suggest me the better option)
Day 3 - Pangong to Tso Kar (is it doable or should i stay in Tso Moriri rather)
Day 4 - Tso Kar to Keylong
My main concern in petrol. Where all do i have petrol pumps to fill it.
Hi,
DeleteAssuming you are riding a motorbike.
Tso Moriri has very limited options to stay, and is small lake. Although less touched as well. But I would suggest stay at Tso moriri
Then Day 4: Tsomoriri to Keylong would be better
Petrol - Fill at Leh and Karu and take extra fuel - Minimum 15 litres. You can get petrol in black in Sarchu/Pang but better to be safe and carry extra.
Cheers
Hi, i am going to leh through bike. Please let me know whether ILP is required for Nubra- wari la - pangong route.
ReplyDeleteFurther how will be road condition from Aghan to pangong.
No ILP required. Agham to Warila and 4kms after Wari la will be challenging. 1km before and after Chang la will be challenging as well.
DeleteAll the best
Which is the best route for Leh, starting and end on Chandigarh (on Royal Enfield)
ReplyDeleteRoute1: Chandigarh-SriNagar-Kargil-Leh-Nubra-Pangong Lake-TSO Moriri-Manali-Chandigarh
Route2: Exactly reverse route of Route1 i.e. Chandigarh-Manali-Leh-............-SriNagar-Chandigarh
Thanks
Hi Buddy, we are visiting Leh in August last days, and wanted to know what are the options we have to travel from TSO moriri to Manali other than Bike.
ReplyDeleteTaxi, Rented car, bus.
DeleteCan tsomoriri to Jispa be reached in same day? How much time it takes?
ReplyDeleteHi, yes it can be reached. Roughly 10 hours depending on your riding style, breaks etc.
DeleteIF you plan Tso Moriri to Jispa, just do it and don't worry much about time taken, enjoy the views and don't rush. Even if you reach late, it's fine. Cheers
Hi I have heard that there are not many places to eat in the route from Tso Moriri to Jispa and that we must stock food beforehand for this route. Is this true? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteDepends on your eating frequency. Keeping biscuits, chocolates with you is always handy in this trip.
DeleteWhen you leave Tso Moriri (after breakfast) in roughly 3-4 hours you will reach Tso Kar where you can eat again. The food is just basic. After Tso Kar, you can eat at Pang and then at Sarchu.
Thanks a lot Puneet! We are planning to do this trip in the first two weeks of June, we will be hiring a SUV. Do you think the route from Tso Moriri to Jispa in one day would be possible or too hectic? We also have a friend who has asthama issues, should this be something we should consider while considering this long journey?
DeleteThanks again! :)
Hi Trishala, it's not long and can be done. I did Tso-Moriri to Manali in single day. Start early - 6am or so and reach early at your destination.
DeleteFor asthmatic friend, where would you hire SUV from? If you are spending few days in mountains, body will get adjusted to the less oxygen up there. But if say you fly to Leh, hire SUV same day and start your trip, your friend can face issues. So go easy initial 2-3 days and let the body get adjusted to the local conditions there.
All the best. Share your experience, once you are back regarding driving conditions from Tso Moriri to Jispa. Would like to know road conditions between Tso Moriri and Tso Kar this year. Thanks.
Me and my frnd will be staying Tso morriri on 12th August and we are planning to leave on 13th morning to manali..is public transport available or share taxi ? Or should I come back to Leh and travel..help buddy
ReplyDeleteHi Jobin, There are fixed days on which buses ply between Leh and Tso Moriri. May be weekly twice or so. I can't comment on what date will you get a bus.
DeleteBut you can get share taxis from Leh itself. Look out for ads outside café doors there are always people looking for 1-2-3 or may be more for a shared trip. All depends on luck.
thanks buddy
